There is no doubt that these animals on the list below are wildlife and are often considered dangerous in Africa. Yet for many reasons these animals are not as popular and well respected as other safari animals. There has been a lot of misunderstanding around them due to ignorance and incorrect representations, giving these animals a bad reputation. This was one of the reasons; African animals become extinct in the wild.
The old world and new world vultures. The Old World vultures are found in Europe, Africa and Asia. This group of birds consist of the following: The eagles, kites, buzzards and hawks. The birds in these groups are usually scavenging birds of prey.
They eat dead and rotting flesh; people often get disgusted by these birds. Vultures are extremely important as they clean the environment by eating animal’s remains, before the rotting bodies become diseases that can be spread. This makes their life even more tragic because many believe that vultures are just big scary birds that spread disease, when they are actually doing the opposite.
There are more than 3 000 species of snakes in the world. Most of them are non-poisonous and some of these have the ability to swallow their prey. Snakes are found on every region except for the following places. Antarctica, Pacific and Indian Oceans.
In Africa, there are many myths about these slippery creatures:
It is believed that they can sting with their tails. Rattlesnakes use their rattles as a warning device, but no snake will, or can, sting with its tail.
People believes snakes can spellbind the, that is untrue as they are not able to. The reason why it seems like a hypnotising stare is because snakes have a set of eyes that don’t have eyelids and they cannot blink.
Snakes do not and cannot chase people. Most snakes are scared of people and when you disturb them they will either slip or slither around, it is because they are either trying to get away from you or trying to find a hiding place, because they feel threatened by you. That’s why they will attack.
Make no mistake that these animals are dangerous and can kill you. If you are going to be entering a habitat populated with wildlife, stay alert and be aware, stay away from provoking them.
Before you go on an African safari or enter an area where you know there would be wildlife, know how to treat an attack and more importantly, how to prevent it from happening. Teach yourself about these animals, knowing more about them will help you understand and respect them, as well as make us understand why they are so important and why they deserve as much astonishment as the Big Five.
